Emotional Intelligence Retaining Employees During an Economic Recovery

Are employee sick days leaving you short staffed? When your people start calling in with excuses like, "My allergies are kicking in and I'm miserable and can't work,Nike Free Run 2 Sko Grå Rød," or,Lässige Schuhe MBT Meli Sand Männer, "I got a splinter in my foot over the weekend and now I can't walk," or even,Nike Free 5.0 V4 Grå Blå Kvinders løbesko, "My car won't start," it's a symptom that your people are sick - sick of work. The employee who has an illness or death in the family regularly may really be avoiding work, and you should be more than a little concerned about it.

The disease at work is stress. This stress stems from today's demands that people do more with less. People start to be worn down by the challenges and they feel entitled to skip work. Their actions reveal that they can't stand being at work. There is a building desire among workers to job-hop,see more, and once the economy recovers some employers may see heavy turnover.

Unhappy workers are not leaving now because they can't afford to leave a job without assurance that there will be a job waiting for them. During economic downturns, talent tends to stay put because of low talent demands in the workplace. With rising unemployment and layoffs, workers worry about job security. But you can bet that there will be a rising exodus once the job market picks up. "According to Companies at Crossroads researched and written by the Economist Intelligence Unit, nearly a third of business executives reported that employee engagement is low and, as talent demand grows,Nike Air Presto 2011 Grå sorte sko, they expect to lose key people." People want to be committed to their work and feel as though they are contributing. But they begin to think about leaving when executives and leaders don't clearly demonstrate that they are important to organizational success. Clearly, Emotional Intelligence plays a roll here. When people don't feel cared for, it's hard for them to care. They're angry that their work is not acknowledged and live in fear that they'll be out of a job tomorrow.

The tone and culture of the organization is set by the leaders. Despite tough times such as the recent economic downturn, it's possible to foster positive emotions in the workplace. A statement of sincere appreciation and a dose of empathy can go a long way to remedying an unhappy worker. Perhaps with this small effort,MBT Fora Licht Plum Schuhe DaMänner, next week your assistant won't call in and tell you she can't come to work because her garage door is stuck halfway open.

Even in tough times, when talent demands are low,Nike Zoom Kobe IV X Sort Hvid Del Sol Sko, job security is a great concern, and turnover is almost a non-issue, companies need to pay attention to the fact that they may lose their talent when the economy recovers.
